“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances;
for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
(I Thessalonians 5:16-18)
Doesn’t matter whether its the rejoicing, the praying, or the thanking, we’re all in. Literally. All of us. All the time. With all we’ve got. Not some time. Not most of the time. Not when we have time. Not only when it’s easy. Not only when it’s going good. Always. Without ceasing. In all circumstances. Why? “For this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” For you. “You” is plural here in the Greek. You got it. All of you. Sorry, my mistake. All of us. And what a privilege, honor, opportunity, and responsibility God has
entrusted to us and called us to carry out.
What brought this on was looking at my our calendar here at Evergreen Lutheran. God has truly and deeply blessed us in all things. Here are a few examples of those blessings:
-- Sunday Worship ... it is a joy to worship with you each week, so I say, "Thank you!"
-- Weekly Bible studies ... Sundays, Acts ... Tuesdays, John ... Thursdays, Luke
... again, it's my joy to study God's Word with you & new ones are coming in September;
-- our preschool ... the Preschool Board, the staff, and the kids & their families!
... what a joy to greet them each morning!
... Sarah, such a blessing from God over the past few years ... she will be missed
... Marin, a new blessing God has gifted to us to lead us forward;
-- Mother’s Day, May 8th
... rejoice, pray, and give thanks for moms here & everywhere;
-- Board of Elders ... meets May 10th
... rejoice over them, pray for them, and give thanks for their ministry to
you and to God, for these men of faith are a blessing to all of us;
-- Winkel ... May 17th
... parishes & pastors of our Circuit, blessed and blessings both;
-- Council ... May 17th
... more servants of God who are His blessing to all of us!
-- Consecrmation Sunday, May 29th, a time once again to rejoice, pray, and give thanks for our Confirmand, Keegan Pfeifer, as he confesses his baptismal faith that day;
-- Memorial Day, May 30th
... Time to remember & give thanks for those who sacrifice for us.
Whew! That's just calendar stuff for the month of May!! I’m not done, yet. I hope you’re not done, either.
So much for which we rejoice. So much over which we pray. So much for which we give thanks. Always. Without ceasing. In all circumstances. All of us!
Please, share with me and with each other, the blessings God has gifted to you, for which you, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances."
